MEAT GOES UP
PENNY A POUND INCREASE NEW PRICE-LIST ISSUED In consequence of the substantial advances in the prices of fat cattle at the Westfield market since December, the Auckland Master Butchers’ Association has found it necessary to make a corresponding increase in the retail prices of meat. The new list, which will come into force on Monday, April 23, shows increases of a penny a lb. on prime cuts of beef and pork. Mutton and veal are not affected. Rump steak goes up from lid a lb to Is, undercut from Is to Is Id, and other cuts of beef steak from ad to 6d. All pork is similarly increased except sausages, which remain at "d. Hotels, restaurants and boardinghouses, whose current accounts are £l or more a week, may be supplied for cash at shop prices. On all accounts exceeding £2 a week 5 per cent, discount will be allowed, and on those of £5 ,or more 10 per cent, under the usual conditions. No shins or suet will be given and “all round” prices will not be permissible.
