WIFE TAKES OVER HUSBAND’S PETITION
DIVORCE FOR DESERTION The failure of the petitioner in a divorce action to find security for costs led to his withdrawal from the suit in favour of his wife who became the petitioner. Before Mr. Justice McGregor in the Supreme Court this morning, Aimee Maud Gray (Mr. Hubble), petitioned for divorce from Thomas Herbert Gray, tailor, of Auckland, on the ground of desertion and failure to maintain. Mr. Hubble stated that the couple were married on October 25, 1910, and there were four children of the marriage. In 1923 Gray sent his wife to Auckland from Tauranga and told her he would be following her. Ho sent her £ 3 a week for six weeks, and then stopped sending anything. He did not again live with her, and she was compelled to work. Two of the children had been committed to a home. A decree nisi was granted, with costs on the lowest scale against the respondent. The custody of the children was given to Mrs. Gray.
