GRADER TOO KIND
TAUPIRI DAIRY COMPANY PROSECUTED FINED ON EIGHT CHARGES Allegations that the Taupiri Dairy Company, Ltd., had graded cream ad- | vantageously to suppliers were made j in the Police Court to-day when the company was charged on eight counts ' with failing to grade cream received i from a supplier, in accordance with | regulations. j Mr. V. N. Hubble, who appeared for i the Department of Agriculture, said j that first-grade cream sent to the | company by a client was placed in ! the finest grade, the result being that the supplier received a higher price. In one book the grader had entered the cream as first-grade, but it had been entered as finest in the office books. "This must have been done for ; the purpose of attracting custom,” said Mr. Hubble. Mr. L. P. Leary, representing the company, said that the grader's task was a difficult one, and the results -of grading often varied. For the eight mis-gradings the supplier re- ; ceived an additional 9s 7d. There ; was no foundation for the suggestion 1 that the company was endeavouring to attract business by favourable gradings. On the first charge, the company ’ was fined 20s, and 10s on each of the I other seven, together with costs.
