Captain Jensen, and the chief officer, Mr. Liees, and others were taken ashore while the valuable cargo was unloaded. Later a Chinese gunboat appeared in the bay and the pirates made for the hills, taking their booty with them. Five passengers were also taken as captives. Captain Jensen signalled to the gunboat and a pursuit party was landed, but could not overtake the pirates.
