“THE LOVE MART” An exciting story of crooks Is “Cheating Cheaters.” starring Betty Compson and Kenneth Harlan, now being shown at the Empire Theatre. The story concerns Nan Carey, a clever shop-lifter, caught by the police but acquitted through the influence of Lazare, a crooked lawyer, who places her with a gang of crooks he is backing. Posing as the Brockton family, the crooks move into a beautiful home, where they plan to use their spoils as a decoy to get the famous Palmer jewels. In their luxurious surroundings they are accepted as a family of standing by the Palmers, who are reputed to be very wealthy. Tom Palmer, the son, becomes infatuated with Nan and through a clever hoax she gets into their home to stay all night. On the same programme is Billie Dove in “The Love Mart,” a romantic story of the days of slave running.
