FLOURISHING INDUSTRY
FRUITGROWERS’ COUNCIL
ANNUAL REPORT
“There never was a time in the history of the fruitgrowing industry when so much advantage was taken of research and education as at present,” says the fifth annual report pf the Auckland Provincial Fruitgrowers’ Council, Ltd., which will be presented at the annual meeting this afternoon. “The passing of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture's Act with the powers granted thereunder and the establishment of the Massey College are most important factors. The interest of the scientific and industrial department is a very real one, and as an earnest £IOO has been granted through the Institute of Horticulture for Citrus liosearch.” Two new associations had been formed during i the year, and were carrying out valuable work in their own particular branches of the industry. Fireblight. had been prevalent m most districts, but vigilence and prompt action by orehardists and Government officers had prevented the spread of infection. The export season had proved satisfactory. The guarantee which was consistently urged upon the minister resulted in re-establishing confidence. Indications were that the export industry was being established on a firm basis.
