FINE FIELDS ENGAGED

STIRRING CONTESTS ANTICIPATED

PROSPECTS DISCUSSED

AFTER a most successful opening on Saturday, the Avondale Jockey Club will bring its autumn meeting to a close on its fine new course to-morrow. . Once again there are splendid fields to be seen in action in all eight events on the card, so that there should be nothing lacking in the way of stirring contests. A review of to-morrow’s card appears below. 1 1 AVONDALE HURDLES A Of £250; 2 miles Lady a ci'nt‘ra‘ 10 9 - This is a disappointing field so tar as numbers go. Lady Spalp’n 9 13 Uralla has gone up nine pounds, and Lady Cintra, whom Karamu ... 90 she defeated by nearly a length, has been raised four. Pekatahi ..90 Lady Spalpeen is not altogether a reliable customer, otherwise she would have a great show of turning the tables at the further difference in the weights. Karamu went well for a mile on Saturday, and Pekatahi, who has pace on the flat, if a. good jumper may surprise. However, it looks as if the best backed will be: URALLA and LADY CINTRA

1 ? ICI DOMINION HANDICAP Of £200; 7 furlongs Britisii King 9 0 This is an even bigger field than Brampton . 712 Restamaot .' 8 I that which contested the Maiden Dhmona Sant " 13 Maori Boy . S 5 on Saturday. A division will be Queen . . 711 P Armor ..84 unnecessary, for the safety number Master 6 ” ’ 710 The Fox . . 8 3 is 28. British King, Eombarder, Clements . 710 Josie Melville 82 . *•*-».*-*.* , . Ponticus . . 710 Arihana ..81 Restaurant, Parfait Amour, Josie B]ue spear . 710 Kyngzone . 8 1 Melville, Kyngzone, Luminary, and Moe Hall . . 710 :.? 12 Miss Myrtle went well enough the Loyal Lad . 712 first day to cause them to be fancied, Miss Myrtle 7 S L’wninary . . 7 12 _ ... , , . Princ. Rain 7 S Cullgie . . 712 and with a bit more rain Double Mint would be suited if she can work off her soreness. A quartette that is greatly fancied is comprised of British King, Bombarder, Restaurant and Parfai Amour, and of these the favourites may be: RESTAURANT and PARFAIT AMOUR 1 C NURSERY HANDICAP *•*' Of £250; 6 furlongs Avon Court . 9 0 This is a fine field, if a bit on the Perception . 7 0 Cold Money. 8 8 big side, but up the big straight the I-liata * • • • 19. Lucy Rose . 8 6 maioritv will have their rhanop Avon Elope .... 7 0 White Wings 8 3 majoiny wm nave ineu cnance Avon Justify ... 7 0 Te Atiawa . 7 6 Court reads as well as anything, Taaneriri ..70 Orewa ... 7 6 while Gold Money, with a strong Sylvanun ..70 Grand Tea . 7 5 jockey, will probably show that her Valquette ..70 Valuation ..75 Ellerslie running was all wrong. Mons Star ..70 Fancy Boy . 7 5 Lucy Rose is a genuine filly, and a Jolly Money . 7 0 fair stayer, and so too is White Wings. Others fancied may be Orewa, Perception, Justify and Jolly Money. The best backed will probably be: LUCY ROSE and PERCEPTION 1 Cf\ WAITAKERE HANDICAP Of £250; 7 furlongs Ti Tree ... 8 8 A field of a dozen should make for a very interesting Daylight .. . 8 6 contest, Ti Tree, who has not been showing anything Judge’s Box | 0 like her true form of late, went a good race at Ellerslie, King Merv ! 8 3 and on that can be said to be coming back. Oration Whaka King 7 was noticed finishing strongly on Saturday, and apparKing ently this course suits him. Daylight is very well, and * 7 0 Judge’s Box was only narrowly beaten by Le Choucas British King 7 0 the first day. High Pitch and King Merv read well, Miss Mercia . 7 0 especially if the sting is out of the ground. Whaka King is on the improve, and further down there are Prince Lu (who set such a hectic pace in the final event the first day), King Emerald and British King. It is an even contest on paper, and it is quite probable that when speculation ceases the best supported will be: TI TREE and JUDGED BOX 9 Af\ AUTUMN HANDICAP Of £500; 1 mile Branson ... 7 13 Eleven is quite a nice number to contest the main In the Shade 7 11 event. At the head of affairs is Branson, winner of Valkon . . . 7 10 the Foley Memorial op Saturday. He has gone up Lljung Juliet 7 4 eleven pounds for his success, and as the distance toPapatu 7 1 morrow will probably suit him better, on the whole he Llandudno* .70 is nicely treated. In the Shade was beaten from the Day Guard . 7 0 start on Saturday, but the smaller field will assist True Blood . 7 0 him. Valkon .continues to race unluckily, and if the Tinokoa ... 7 0 fates are kind he will be the hardest to beat. Flying Master Doon 7 0 Juliet likes this distance, and yet she would appear to have a much better chance of pulling off the sprint. Hipo will be a dangerous candidate, judged on his first day’s form, in which with the tapes hanging to him he was up against it all the way. Papatu may be better served by the shorter distance, and next on the list is a newcomer in Llandudno. Day Guard will be one of the dangerous ones, for he went well the first day despite going off the course at the home turn. True Blood and Tinokoa will have their best chances on a wet track, and Master Doon does not appear to be ready. Doubtless the prime fancies will be: VALKON and BRANSON 9 9A MOUNT EDEN HANDICAP Of £300; 6 furlongs Nancy Lee . 9 3 The top-weight did not make her appearance on Flying 7 13 Saturday, and with her impost she will go a good race. King-field ..78 Royal Tea is improving with every run, but may not be Higl? Finance 7 5 dhite ready yet. Flying Juliet reads very well, and if Romford ..70 reserved for this will be worthy of support. On SaturMelissa ... 7 0 day she was apparently beaten at the bottom of the The Immi- Straight, and then finished on. Kingfield ran badly on , grant -• • • 7 0 . Saturday, and will need to Improve considerably. Aston Tinokoa 1 * '"7O is a very promising sort, and he will let the others know Subdivision ! 7 0 tbat he is in the rac e. Lorient 11,, has yet to make his Lady's Boy . 7 0 appearance here, and if all one hears is correct knows full well how to gallop. High Finance is very well, i although not generally recognised as a second day performer. There are several i ob the minimum, but those that will command a lot of respect are: FLYING JULIET and NANCY LEE 41*; MOUNT RO3KILL HANDICAP Of £250; 1 mile Cynthia. Winsome Boy 9 0 hacks has been brought together in Catapult ... 7 0 Whaka Kini 8 2 this event among the more notable wlniAs’llght 7 0 Auric ulus ..80 being Cynthia N.. Winsome Boy, Arch Quin 7 o Taurimu . . 711 Micrometer, Auriculus. Taurimu, Desert Night 7 0 Cybele .... 710 Cybele, Respirator, Arch Queen, "Wyoming . . 7 0 Respirator . < S Wyoming and Idun, and from this Idun 7 0 lot should come the machine favourites. At her last start Cybele ran second to Cynthia X., at Ellerslie over this journey, while Micrometer and Auriculus can improve on Saturday’s efforts. The fancies on the totalisator may be:

CYBELE and MICROMETER £ A MOENINGSIDE HANDICAP Of £250; 1 mile Le Choucas . 9 9 This is a nice-sized field for the “recovery stakes,” rn.hvnma ' ' 84 in which wayward punters endeavour to ge‘t square. Aurumavis' ! S 2 Le Choucas has been raised half a stone, and Lomint Matinee . . ! S 0 has hardly been up long enough, although she is fast Winsome Boy S 0 getting into shape. Quircoma was left the first dav Queen Arch . S 0 but with a run to-day may make amends. Aurumavis MCTvette' ;: I 0 Z il l no doubt so well over thss distance, and so will Harbour View S 0 Matinee, although he had every show the first day, running a bit wide on the turn. Queen Arch ran sufficiently well in the Foley Memorial to be given a fin*chance, and Archeno finished fourth in the last race the same dav.' Mervettc will be improved by her outing on Saturday, and so may be dangerous. The betting may favour: LE CHOUCAS and QU IN COM A
