CHARLES SIMS DEAD
ROYAL ACADEMICIAN (United P. A.—By Telegraph — Copyright.) (Australian P.A.—United Service) Reed. 12.5 p.m. LONDON, Monday. The death has occurred of Mr. Charles Sims, R.A.
Charles Sims was born in 1573, and married a daughter of the late John McWhirter, R.A. He commenced commercial work in an office in Paris, but later studied art at South Kensington and in other schools, under J. Le Febvre, and Benjamin Constant. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools in LSS3, and exhibited in the Academy the next year. He became an A.R.A. in 1900, and R.A. in 1916. He was keeper and trustee of the Royal Academy from 1920 to 1926. and trustee of the National Gallery of British Art (Tate Gallery) since 1920. One of his pictures is in the Christchurch municipal collection. r ~-—
