PRINCESS AND TIVOLI

“A TIDY TOREADOR” “A Tidy Toreador,” starring Hoot Gibson, in a tale of the West, is the picture at present being shown at the Princess and Tivoli Theatres. Hard riding, fig<hting and riotous comedy are in this Gibson picture, which is one of the best he has ever

done. Through it all is the thread of a heart - warming romance between Gibson and Sallv Rand. Very fine, human and appealing character work is done by Otis Harlan as Gibson’s whimsical Dad. Duke R. Lee is splendid as an Indian, while Frank Beal as the blustering old father of

Miss Rand injects many laughs into the picture, being an excellent foil for Gibson and Harlan. On the same programme is a delightful comedy, as dainty as its name, ‘Silk Stockings,” starring Laura La Plante. This is a comedy which skirts along the border of tragedy, but never touches it, and hence is superbly funny. Miss La Plante, as a result, will take a lilmer hold than ever on her title as the screen’s greatest comedienne. Universal’s beautiful, be-dimpled, blonde star is a pei'fect trouper, a thing more necessary in the comedy field than in straight drama. The story is logical and concerns the troubles of a newly married couple, their little spats and their decision to air their differences in a divorce court. Of course, they don’t get the divorce. John Harron is ideally cast as tfce young husband. He is young, full of fire of youth and unsophisticated, the perfect characterisation for this role.
