HOCKEY SEASON OPENS (From Our Own Coi-respondent) XGATE A. Monday. The Hauralii Plains Ladies’ Hockey Association opened its season on urday last,»when the first matches of the inter-club competitions were played. All the teams contained young inexperienced players. but the general standard of the play was encouraging. The Waitakaruru team beat Kcrepeelii by nine goals to nil. Goais were shot by Miss M. Hill (5), Miss B. Hunter (2), Miss F. Barney and Miss A. Peters. At Ngatea the Kopuarahi team had a win by three goals to nil the scorers being Miss A. Candy t2>, and Miss M. Harwood. Xgatea High School beat Tvopuarahi “B" by six goals to nil at Kopuarahi. The Turua team had a bye and played a match with a new* Kerereehi team which has not yet affiliated. SWIMMING In response to the appeal of the young members of the Xgatea Swimming Club, sports were again held in the Piako River on Saturday afternoon, despite the coldness of the wind and the water.. There was a good attendance of ‘spectators and many comments were heard of the progress of the young children who, prior to the formation of the club, could not swim. Results of the events are as follows: 33 Yards, Public School, Mixed.—M. Costello 1, C. Walton 2; 12 starters. 1 ards, Public School, mixed.—C. Walton 1, Miss B. Elliott 2; four starters. 33 Yards, 11 years and under. —F. Johnston 1, L. Johnston 2; six starters. Neat Dive.—F. Joiinston 1, E. Waite 2; five entries. Learners' Race, Mixed.—S. Foster 1, Miss Iv. Louch 2; eight starters. Long Dive.—D. Dudding 1, F. Johnston 2; four entries. T Box « Race * —Miss B. Elliott 1, D. Pudding 2; eight entries. Pillow Fight.—D. Dudding. Ugly Dive.-—Miss B. Elliott 1, D. Dudding 2; eight entries. Clothes Race.—Miss B. Elliott 1. M. Costello 2; eight entries.
