CRUISING CLUB’S SEASON REVIEWED That the Sea Gnome is a splendid racer has been proved in this, her first, season on the IJJanukau. She has won the following cups In the Cruising Club’s fixtures: Fearon Handicap, for 18ft and under; Fearon Challenge Cup; McGahan Champion, for 46ft and under; Morton Points Cup for harbour races; Briscoe Points Cup, for cruising races. No matter what the weather has been this little boat has turned out and has proved herself just as good in a heavy sou’-wester (and it is heavy on the Manukau) as in a light air. Waiapu’s owner has just begun to get the trim of his boat when it is time to close, but she should do great things next season. The ex-champion 18-footer Mystery has seen her last race and now lies up on the hard. She got badly strained last season and has been leaky all this season. A couple of weeks ago she sat on her anchor and stove in her garboards. It is the intention of her owners to build a 20footer on the same linos for next season.

Another boat that should do "well next season is Aoma. Her new owners have got the trim of her and she should prove capable of good performances. Fire has taken toll of another fine launch. Naughty Girl was burned at her moorings sometime during Sunday night and is a total wreck. The cause is unknown as all appeared safe and sound when she was left at 5 p.m., on Sunday. Insurance of £2OO will help her owner, Mr. T. Brain, to build again. This loss exemplifies the importance of insuring boats whether up on the

land (when the premium is very light) or during the season. The model yachts have had a good season and have yet three races to sail for a cup presented by an enthusiast. The Cruising Club is now part holders of the Lipton Cup and while a little disappointment may be felt, it can be proud of the fact that its representatives was concerned in one of the finest races seen on the Waitemata,
