TRACK TRIALS
SPRINTS AT ELLERSLIE SOME SMART EFFORTS Fast Avork was not in favour with ’ the majority of trainers at Kllerslie this morning - , and not a great number of trials were witnessed. Number 2 | grass was available, and all the under- | mentioned gallops were recorded gui that track. j The stable companions, Gold Money and King Emerald, were under a strong hold to register 51 4-5 for half a mile. Valsier finished several lengths ahead of Brampton at the end of half a mile run in 54 1 -5. The Thorn strode over five furlongs, his effort taking I.S 3-5, while the last four furlongs took 53 3-5. Segment jumped off at the six furlong post and moved over that distance nicely in 1.19 4-5. Avon Court and Tea Tattle were partnered over half a mile, cut out in 51 1-5, the initial furlong taking 12 4-5. The former claims an engagement in the Nursery Handicap at Avondale tomorrow, and despite her big weight will give a good account of herself. Parfait Amour moved off from the six furlong post and got to the end of the first furlong in 12 3-5, two in 25, three in 39, and completed the journey in 1.22 4-5. It was a good gallop, and it should occasion no surprise if he runs prominently in the Dominion Handicap at Avondale to-morrow. The two-year-old colt Jolly Money moved surprisingly well over half a mile, registering the fair time of 51 for his effort. Bombarder and Piet were associated in a bout over five furlongs, the time taken being 1.5. The pair strode over the first furlong in 12, and got to the end of the first couple in 24 3-5. There is nothing wrong with their present condition, A GOOD SPIN An excellent gallop was recorded by Kingfield and Tinakoa, more particularly the former, and nothing improved upon their effort from a time point of view over five furlongs. There was not a great deal separating the pair when they jumped off, arid as they got into their stride the pace was Increased, the first two furlongs taking 24 and the full distance 1.3 2-5. Kingfield, who drew ahead of his companion toward the finish, appeared to be doing it well, ■while Tinakoa also pleased. Semi Circle, who has been having an easy time for some weeks, was allowed to go comfortably over half a mile in 54, while Judge’s Box also covered a similar distance in 53 4-5.
Daylight and Winsome Boy, from the same stable, were not extended to cover half a mile in 52 3-5. After the breakfast interval Harbour View was the first to indulge in fast work, his task being over six furlongs, the last five taking 1.5 2-5. An interesting work-out witnessed by track-watchers over half a mile was that in which Micrometer and Quincoma were partnered. The pair were slow to move away and the initial furlong was covered in 13 1-5, the pace then being increased, with the result that they wound up their performance in 50 1-5. Both are fit and well just now, so it will not be for lack of condition if they fail to perform, prominently in their immediate engagements. Notwithstanding that Wee Marble failed in his outing at Avondale, perhaps he may be encouraged to do better to-morrow, for his was a good attempt when he strode over six furlongs in company with Master Doon in the nice time of 1.18 4-5.
