RUGBY IN THE NORTH
NORTHERN WAIROA UNION GOOD YEAR EXPERIENCED (From Our Own Correspondent) DARGAVILLE, Thursday. There was a splendid attendance of delegates and members at the annual meeting of the Northern Wairoa Rugby Union, held at Dargaville on Wednesday evening. The financial position of the union, as shown by the balance sheet, was considered quite creditable. The union’s liability to debenture holders has been reduced by £l5O, and the gate revenue for the year, £520, constitutes a record. The following officers were elected: Patron, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates; president, Mr. W. Montgomery; vicepresidents, Messrs. M. C. Walpole and T. C. Hawkins; secretary, Mr. J. P. Stanaway; treasurer, Mr. J. Elliott; management committee. Dr. Greville (Dargaville), chairman, Messrs. W. Kelly (Southern), J. Broomfield (Pukeliuia), Dr. Rule (Ruawai), C. Ball (Tangawahine) and W. Graham (Moropiu); auditor, Mr. A. T. Billing; selectors, Mr. W. Kelly, for senior representative team. The appointment of sole selectors for the junior and third grade was left to the Management Committee. Delegates to North Auckland Rugby Union: Dr. Greville and Mr. W. Kelly. It was decided to open the season on Saturday, May 5.
CAMBRIDGE RUGBY UNION
ANNUAL MEETING HELD CAMBRIDGE, Friday. The annual meeting of the Cambridge Rugby Union was held last evening, Mr. Montgomery presiding over a large attendance. The report indicated that the past year was a very successful one, while the balance sheet showed a credit of £l2 4s lid and £45 in the Post Office Savings Bank. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. F. Lye (re-elected); president, Mr. T. Craig; vice-presidents, Messrs. S. Montgomery, S. Karris and T. Hodgson. Delegates to Waikato Union, the president and Mr. Montgomery. There will probably be four senior, five junior and four third grade teams in the coming - season’s competitions. The new ICaipaki Junior Club applied for affiliation. It was decided that the delegates to the Waikato Rugby Union confer with the Waipa delegates re certain players just over the Waipa boundary playing for the Kaipaki Club.
AUCKLAND SEASON OPENS IN FORTNIGHT'S TIME
PRACTICE GAMES TO-MORROW Practice matches will be- played by the different Rugby clubs in the city and suburbs to-morrow. The season will not open for another fortnight, but already the clubs are busy looking over their forces. The following Marist players have been chosen for practice to-morrow: Cornthwaite, Stoupe, Stuart, Johnson, Loft, Jeffries, Wright, Marshall, Hadley, Carroll, Locke, Cotter, Butler, Macdonald, Eville, Hirst, Maher, M. 33. Johnson, Howard, Malloy, Downing, Earlly, Henry.
