TAKES ADMIRAL’S RANK

SIR FREDERICK FIELD NAVAL PROMOTIONS (United P. A.—By Telegraph — Copyright.. (Australian Press Association) LONDON, Friday. Vice-Admiral Sir Frederick Field has been promoted to the rank of admiral and he takes over the command of the Mediterranean Fleet. Rear-Admiral P. H. Hall-Tkompson has been promoted to the rank of viceadmiral, and Captain Gordon Campbell, V.C., and Captain N. A. Sullivan —who was in charge of the Renown during the tour of the Duke and Duchess of York—have been promoted to the rank of rear-admiral and have been placed on the retired list. Admiral Sir Sydney Fremantle has been placed on the retired list. Vice-Admiral Sir Frederick Field, who has been promoted to the rank of Admiral, commanded the Special Service Squadron during the world cruise in 1923-24, his visit to Auckland in the Hood being made in May, 1924. Vice-Admiral Hall-Thompson, while holding the rank of captain, was stationed in New Zealand as naval adviser to the New Zealand Government from 1914 until 1921. Later, he was first Naval Member of the Australian Naval Board.
