Potate (Wanganui), 6—4, ■ 5, 6—3E Howell has taken a prominent nart in Maori tennis since 1926, when, £jth Miss Karepe, he won the mixed championship doubles. He was a member of the team which won the Marumaru Cup last year. He has Dlaved the most consistent tennis throughout the tournament. Pie was .asily the better player and won on his merits. His success was largely due to the fact that he drove hard toPotate's backhand, then going to the net to cut off the return. Both smashed with accuracy, but Howell lobbed with more consistency. His passing shots were uncanny and had a demoralising effect on Potate. Later, in a Morehu Cup match, Potate had his revenge, defeating Howell in three straight sets, 6—2, The final of the Marumaru Cup will he played this morning, when Wanganui will meet Maniapoto. The final of the mixed doubles between D. Potate and Mrs. Newton and Jf. B. Jones and Mrs. P. H. Jones will also be played off this morning.
