Since Germany has turned to sport, she has produced some notable champions. Dr. Peltier and Houben in running, Froelich and Laufers in swimming, and Fraulein Ausseam in tennis are all to world class, and the latest German success is that of a 16- year-old schoolgirl, Fraulein Helen Mayer, who won the international fencing title in London recently, and has since held it against all challengers. Fraulein Mayer who is a tall blonde is here seen in competition with the British champion, Mrs. M. Freeman (on right). The German girl wore white” tunic and which seemed to give her an advantage against her adversaries, who wore regulation pleated skirts.
