AT an informal meeting of the City Council on April 5 a decision was made to purchase 2,898 acres from Mr. G. H. Davis, at a price of £2 12s 6d an acre. The council confirmed this last evening. The property is adjacent to the Mangatangi and Mangatawhiri streams, which it is proposed to develop for city: water supplies. 'T'HE Mayor and Cr. J. A. C. Allum will represent the City Council before the Transport Commission. QWING to Cr. M. J. Coyle's unavoidable absence, the question of the Jewish cemetery plot in Karangahape Road was deferred, but will probably come before the next meeting of the council. rpHE explanation of the city engineer on the expenditure on the £710,000 secondary streets loan was dismissed by the finance committee thus: “The committee recommends that the report be received, and that in future cases due provision be made for the cost of raising loans.” “J WISH you’d keep the chairman of the finance committee in order,” said Cr. W. H. Murray, amid loud laughter. “I happen to be the chairman of the finance committee,” remarked the Mayor. Cr. Murray was really referring to Cr. J. A- C. Allum. THE finance committee recommended that a sum not exceeding £SOO be placed on the current estimates as a donation towards the cost of the proposed Auckland booklet. TWO car owners who allowed picnic fires to be lighted on the West Coast Road, endangering council and private property, are to be warned that this road is in a district in which fires are prohibited. In future similar offenders will be prosecuted.
