EAST COAST RAILWAY
FARMERS URGE EXTENSION (From Our Own Correspondent) OPOTIKI, Thuirsday. The question of the continuation of the East Coast railway from Taneati-a eastwards to Opotiki was discussed at the annual meeting of the Opotiki branch of the Farmers’ Union, held to-day. Mr. Holmes said he considered the lelision, of the railway would be the making of the eastern end of the Bay of Plenty. A discussion showed that it was already possible to bring manure by rail and road to Opotiki cheaper than by boat, and there was no question of the railway not paying. Mr. G. Joblin stated that the traffic over the new section of the railway had already considerably exceeded expectations of the railway authorities. Finally it was proposed by Mr. Joblin that the Government be urged to push on the railway from Taneatua to Opotiki, and the motion was carried unanimously. A copy of the resolu- 1 lion is to be forwarded to the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Public Works. I
