POLL AT HOWICK

LOAN PROPOSAL REJECTED A poll of Howick ratepayers, held yesterday, resulted in the rejection of the proposal to raise a loan of £1,250 to erect new offices for the Howick Town Board. The loan, which had been approved by the Local Government Loans Board, was to be .repayable in six years, the interest not to exceed 6 per cent. Of the 323 persons on the ratepayers’ roll, only 125 voted, 42 being for the proposal and 82 against. There was one informal vote.
