PRINCESS AND TIVOLI

LAURA LA PLANTE TO-NIGHT

‘'Silk Stockings,” starring Laura. La Plante, will be presented at the Princess and Tivoli Theatres to-night. This is a comedy which skits along

the border of tragedy but never touches it, and is hence superbly funny. Miss La Plante, as a result, will take a firmer hold than ever on ner title as the screens greatest comedienne. Universal's beautiful, be-dimpled. blonde star is a nerfecl trouper, a thing more necessary in the comedy held than in straight drama.

The story is logical and concerns the troubles of a newly married couple, their little spats and their decision to air their differences in a divorce court. Of course, they don't get the divorce. John Harron is ideally cast as the young husband. He is young, full of fire of youth and unsophisticated, the perfect. characterisation for this role. The supporting cast is admirably chosen. Otis Harlan us the attorney for both parties is extremely ludicrous. The court scene, by the way, is about the funniest bit of work that we have ever seen in the screen. It is a laugh from start to finish. A\illiam .Austin is as humorous as ever and Marcella Daly is delectable as the vamp. Heinie Conklin is a funny watchman while Burr Mclntosh, as the sober judge, is unbeatable. A well-told tale is A Tidy Toreador, ’ the new Hoot Gibson starring vehicle, which will also be shown tonight.

It is a gripping story of the "West with ample quantities of comedy interspersed. And, iQjdeed, it should be a good story for it comes directlv from the pen of that ace of Western storv writers, Peter B. Kyne.

Hoot, beloved as always, further endears himself with the screen-going public by his delightful characterisaof the Tidy Toreador, a rodeo bull thrower, who never allows his face hands or clothes to be soiled bv contact with the dusty earth.
