TRACK TRIALS

ELLERSLIEJGALLOPS AUSSIE AND AWARERE—AS USUAL After the rain oyer-night the tracks at Ellerslie this morning were in perfect order for training operations. The majority of the fast work was carried out on number two grass, and the conditions prevailing made the going conducive to fast times. Th© crack sprinters, Awarere and Aussie, once again recorded outstanding ti#ne in a gallop over five furlongs, and it appears as if the pair will not be long in adding to their record. Winsome Girl was accompanied by the French-bred colt, Tidal, in a bout over six furlongs in 1.19 2-5, the initial two furlongs taking 24 4-5. Tidal, who is at present burdened with a great deal of surplus condition, struck out well. From a straggling start Huephano finished well clear of Eager Rose and a companion over five furlongs, the time recorded being 1.4 2-5. Merry Light, who was also in the gallop, received a poor start and was well behind the two at the end. Ohinemuri, who scored an easy victory in the concluding event on the first day at Ellerslie, was given it task extending to six furlongs, the last five taking 1.2 2-5. She was not unduly hustled at any stage of the journey, and is in excellent condition for her engagements at Segment covered a round in 1.42 and appeared to be going well at the finish. A Promising Hurdler

Ripon Abbey was going well within himself to register 53 for half a mile. Piet and The Thorn were associated in a bout over six furlongs, finishing practically on terms. Five furlongs were cut out in 1.4 3-5, and the last half-mile was negotiated in 52 2-5. Kingfield covered an easy five furlongs, but he was not put against the watch. With the prospect of the track on the soft side at Avondale he would give a good account of himself in the sprint. Notwithstanding that Bombarder has shown little worth lately, he may give a good account of himself in the Maiden Plate at Avondale. In company with Corinax he strode over six furlongs in 1.18, and although he had to be shaken up to finish alongside the Magpie gelding, it was a pleasing effort. The last five furlongs were timed to take 1.3 3-5. Tinakoa was exercised over a round in 1.55 2-5, the last half-mile being run in the good time of 50 2-5. Modest Boy had an advantage over Idun at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.4, the initial furlong taking 13 and the first two 25. An Improved Maiden That Storm Fiend is an improved galloper was evident wnen he finished about two lengths clear of Kerry Dance, who was several lengths in front of Kelso, when the trio completed a task over six furlongs. They began smartly and sped over the first couple of furlongs in 24 2-5, got to the end of three in 37, and. finished up their effort in 1.16 2-5. Princess Ronnie, who appears among the acceptors in the Foley Memorial at Avondale, travelled over five furlongs in 1.5, the first two taking 25 1-5. Paganelli was restricted to an easy half mile, the last three furlongs taking 38. Lesson in Galloping There was a stir among track watchers when the All-Aged Stales' candidate, Aussie, and Awarere were trotted round to the five-furlong disc. Moving away well the pair raced with very little between them to the three-furlong post, recording 24. for this two furlongs. Aussie appeared to have the measure' of the Swift Flight gelding half a furlong from home, and the pair concluded their task, with little separating them in the extraordinary good time of 1.1, the last half-mile taking 48 3-5. This afternoon G. Paul’s representatives will depart for Avondale.

Wee Marble and Archcno were practically together at the conclusion of a smartly-run six furlongs in 1.16 1-5, the first three taking 37 2-5. Flying Juliet and Diamond Queen strode over five furlongs together in 1.3 3-5, but could have improved upon that time for the pair were eased up when nearing the post. An interesting trial was that m which Papatu (H. warms), Town Bank (W. M. Jones) and Transformer. (CL McCarthy) were associated. The trio hopped off at the seven-furlong post, and were timed to run from the six furlongs in 1.15 1-5, the initial furlong taking 12 3-5. and the first three 37 2-5. Town Bank went well throughout, and the conditions are evidently to his liking, for Papatu had to be kicked up to finish on terms with him. Transformer, wlio appears to have lost all form lately, never pleased, and was well back at the end.
