“WHO WILL LOOK AFTER KAURI POINT DOMAIN?"
RESORT GOES A-BEGGING Nobody has been particularly interested in Kauri Point Domain since May, 1925, when the last meeting of the Domain Board was held. Since then its meetings have lapsed for want of a quorum. T T is expected by members of tbt A Harbour Board that Aucklanders will one day realise the pleasantness of the 112 acres and therefore th«j (the members) opposed yesterday the vesting of the area in the Birkenhead Borough Council. This step was suggested by tbe Commissioner of Crown Lands, a member of the Domain Board, who, having made an inspection of the property, was of opinion “that the present method of control is not satisfactory*
Mr. G. R. Hutchinson was the first to object to vesting the domain in the. council. He believed that it wonld become one of the most popular resorts for the citizens of Auckland. The Birkenhead Borough Council, in his opinion, was not too energetic in looking after its own domains. Kauri Point Domain concerned the City Council more than the borough council. The Hon. E. W. Alison: Has the borough council been asked for its view? The Deputy-Chairman (Mr. M. FL Wynyard): No. Mr. Alison: Then I move ihat the question be deferred until the next meeting. “It is of more interest to the people of Auckland than to the residents of Birkenhead,” said Mr. A. M. Laing. The question was held over.
