KING COUNTRY JOTTINGS

Mrs. W. G. Batt, the retiring captain, presided over the annual meeting of the Taumarunui Ladies’ Golf Club. The election of officers resulted as follows: Captain, Mrs. Batt: hon. secretary, Mrs. R. W. Thomas: committee, Mesdames L. G. Godfrey, M. H. Wilks, JsT. R. Mclsaac, and Miss H. Corlett. The congregation of the Taumanjnui Presbyterian Church held a largely attended social evening for the :.ual purpose of welcoming the new minister, the Rev. C. Brierly, and saying farewell to the Rev. J. McCaw, who has been relieving for the past 11 months. The Rev. McCaw was in- + he chair for the first part of the proceedings, and apologised for the Essence of the Mayor, Mr. G. E. Manson, who was represented by the DeputyMayor, the Rev. J. E. Ward. Mr. A. J. Langmuir, on behalf of the church office-bearers, Miss Hughes, on behalf of the Bible classes, and Rev. Ward, on behalf of the Taumarunui Maori Mission, extended a hearty welcome to the Rev. Brierly and Rev. McCaw, on behalf of the moderator, the Rev. W. Butterworth, of Te Awamutu, and handed him the key of the church. The Rev. Ward, on behalf of the congregation. asked Mr. McCaw to accept a handsome electric study lamp as a mark of esteenl on the conclusion of his relieving ministry* and Mrs. Ward handed him an envelope with enclosure for Mrs. McCaw. Both ministers suitably returned thanks. The following musical programme was contributed: Pianoforte solo. Miss Marjorie Davis; vocal soo. Mr. E. Caldcrwood: duet. Misses Grice and Edwards: vocal soto, Mr. Hughes; vocal solo. Miss Bailey; duet, the Misses Hughes: solo, Mr.'F. Ashhurst; solo. Mr. R. Stevenson: recitations, Messrs. Campbell and Langmuir. Miss Grice and Miss Hughes played the accompaniments.
