TRAM TRACKS TO GO

950 TONS OF RAILS SALVAGE AT TAKAPUNA The tram tracks at Takaouna

are soon to be torn from their bed of pathetic uselessness. There are about 950 tons of rails and 20.000 sleepers to be raised. THE Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company, Ltd., has accepted the tender of Mr. W. H. Smales for removing the rails and sleepers from the roads at Takapuna. The Borough Council and the Tram Company have exchanged many letters about the tram tracks, as the borough contemplates concreting portions of the main road where the tracks now rust away in idleness. The Tram Company is to pay Mr. Smales £2,250 for removing the tracks and Mr. Smales takes the material salvaged. He has to replace the roadway to the satisfaction of the borough engineer and the company’s engineer, Mr. Greville Walker. This requires the supplying of 1.i64 cubic yards of scoria, 550 yards of 2§in blue metal and 70 yards of chips. On the contract price the material is valued !at £1,250.
