NEW OATH OF OFFICE I ANCIENT LAW RENOUNCED By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright, CONSTANTINOPLE, Monday, j The members of the National Assembly to-day unanimously adopted a i Bill, the effect of which will be to i separate the Church from the State, j The measure provides.— (1) That Islamism shall no longer | be the State religion of Turkey. (2) That deputies and State officials in future shall take the oath of office on their honour, not in the name of God. (3) That the National Assembly shall no longer be charged with the application of Shariah law. —A. and N.Z. ! The Shariah law is the Mohammedan j law, including the traditional sayings of the Prophet Mohammed as well as the teachings of the Koran, the scriptures of i Islam, which forms the oasis of its whole i '.lie.
