WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES Final; Miss Nicholls beat Mi's. Araeil, 6—B, 7—5, in a hard-fought game, characterised by clever judgment in placing by Miss Nicholls. South Island Titles Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. After having been postponed twice owing to rain, the South Island hardceurt tennis tournament was resumed to-day. In the semi-final of the singles, C. Angas defeated N. R. C. Wilson, 6—o, 6- —2. and will meet the winner of C. E. Malfroy v. T. W. Patterson. This match was begun in the late afternoon, but was abandoned on account of rain. In the semi-final of the women’s singles, Miss M. Gibson beat Miss M. Wake, 6—4. 2 —6. 7—5.
