MR. A. H. LUCAS Press Association. BLENHEIM, Tuesday. The late Mr. A. 11. Lucas, who was fatally injured in a motor accident in ellington last evening, was 68 years of age. He was very widely known a »*d highly respected in Blenheim, *’here he had lived for many years. Ho was for a long period chief telegraphist here at the time when Blenheim was the largest telegraph office fit the Dominion, all the work between the two islands having to be repeated from that office. On Mr. Lucas fell the responsibility of putting into order the mechanical repeating system which oal away with the large staff, and lie achieved this with distinction. Later 2® became telegraph supervisor in blenheim and retained that office until bis retirement on superannuation some e »ght years ago. Mr. Lucas married Miss Burroughs, a member of a well-known Tuamarina amily, -who died some 21 years ago having a. large family.
