CHEQUE FOR £SOO
DAIRYING INDUSTRY'S APPRECIATION
GIFT TO MR. A. A. THORNTON
In an endeavour to express to Mr. A. A. Thornton the appreciation of the dairy industry for his work in the producers* interests during the pa:-' 30 years, the Auckland district dairy factories have allied themselves with the Auckland Farmers* Freezing Co . Ltd., and to-day sent Mr. Thornton a cheque for JC 500. More than 30 years of effort has had its effect on Mr. Thornton's health, and he was forced to retire from the position dairy produce grader for Auckland district seme months a«»> He is living at his home in Epsom. On the practical side, the industry has had no better friend in its historx and when a suggestion was made that some tangible form of appreciation should be expressed the response wa> whole-hearted. Owing to the state of Mr. Thornton’s health the committee managing the presentation decided not to submit the recipient to the trials of a presentation ceremony. and the cheque was posted to him this morning. ”\Ve feel that some expression of appreciation of your untiring efforts on behalf of the industry as a whole should be made.” stated the covering letter. “For 30 odd years you have donated unspared energy to furthering our interests, and it is with deepest regret we learn that your health has made it necessary for you to ctmta 1 your activities.”
In addition to the cheque a preserv tation of a memento will later he made to Mrs. Thornton.
