SCOTS SAIL HOME
LEAVE FROM SYDNEY No. 5 wharf, Walsh Bay, Sydney, presented a gay scene when the Hobsons Bay, with the New South Wales and Queensland contingents of the Scottish Delegation, sailed for V. en route for Plymouth. Myriads of gaily-coloured reamers, floating down the liner's decks, mingled with the bright dresses 01 women who had gathered to bid fare well to relatives and friends. The skirl of bagpipes, blown by three lusty lads in tartan, was the background to shouts of “bon voyage’* from a large gathering on the wharf. The 650 delegates who are making the journey to their birthplace *t tua: of their fathers, have guarant. -»d to bring back as many Scottish immigrants. And every immigrant will have a position awaiting him or her in the Commonwealth. The delegation is even more optimistic. It hopes to be the indirect means of bringing to Australia many sturdy Scots, to lay the foundation of a large and populous Commonwealth. To stimula e the desire of Scotsmen to leave their native heather and mountains, the •"* - legation will enter upon a wide pub licity campaign, by means of the newspapers, by radio announcements and by a tour of Scotland in a spe;. i train.
The Hobsons Bay. which has b: n chartered for the purpose, is under the command of Captain O. J. Kydd. He expressed the opinion that the voyage home would be very pleasant, cdri-, ins that the Queensland contingent* which has been on board the liner from Brisbane, was “an extrem *lv jolly party.” The vessel will carry a few coastal passengers as far as Melbourne and Hobart, and will _ ick up the last contingent of delegates at Fremantle.
