Miss Mercedes Gleitze, the London typist who claims to have swum the j Straits of Gibraltar, was interviewed |in Paris to-day on her way home to | London. | She Said that swimming the Straits ; was quite different from swimming | the English Channel. The water was j much warmer, and she did not suffer ; from cold, although her fingers '-•ere ! paralysed after about six hours in the ! water. | After about one and a-half hour’s | swimming, the current became so i strong that she was almost on the j point of giving up, but the pilot eni couraged her to go on, and shortly afterwards the current changed and I helped her.
