BIG SPORTS GALA programme for next week OPENING OF LEAGUE SEASON The Stack Benefit Committee has arrangements well in hand for its monster sports gala at Carlaw Park next Saturday week in aid of It. Stack, the Newton League footballer, who was badly injured toward the end of last season. A big programme, consisting of League football, boxing, and a barrier race, will be staged. The boxing will be conducted by the Northern Boxing Association, and the har - rier race by the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club. In addition, the Ponsonby Boys’ Band will contribute a number of musical items. The programme is as follows: LEAGUE FOOTBALL Newton v. Ponsonby, No. 1 area. Devonport v. Marist, No. 1 area. City v. Richmond, No. 2 area. Athletic v. Ellerslie, No. 2 area. BOXING J. Brcadfoot (professional middleweight) v. W. McLean (Territorial heavy-weight champion). Ft. Fraei (7.10 cadet champion) v. < \ Verrall (runner-up in Auckland championship). F. Fraei (light-weight) v. r. Thompson (light-weight). Ft. Agnew (Auckland champion) v J. AlcPhail (runner-up). F. Taylor (professional bantamweight) v./G. Rickard (Varsity champion). H. Broadfoot (South Auckland champion) v. Jones. Tt. Martin (cadet champion) v. W. Robinson (South Auckland champion). Matt Hatton (professional featherweight) v. F. Pearcey (fly-weight). A. Mayliill (Varsity light and welterweight champion) v. J. Willis (1927 middle-weight champion). Gifford (heavy-weight) v. Henry (heavy-weight). P. McCarthy (Auckland heavyweight champion) v. Frear (Varsity heavy-weight champion). C. Manson (feather-weight) v. L. Biddick (feather-weight).
