Mr. Albert E. Russell, Wellington director of James J. Niven and Co., Ltd., arrived in Auckland by the Maungauni this morning after a 15 months’ tour of the world.
The Hon. Sir Walter Stringer, chairman of the War Pensions Appeal Board, is expected to arrive in Dunedin on April 12 to preside at a meeting of the board.
Mr. A. J. E. Wiggs, of the National provident Fund and Friendly Societies Department, Wellington, who is retiring on superannuation, was the guest *1 his fellow officers, who presented him with a gold watch.
Colonel Elgie, formerly of the British Army, was an arrival in Auckland this morning by the Maunganui from Sydney. He travelled via Colombo, and proposes spending some time sightseeing in New Zealand.
Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., who first practised as a solicitor in Te Awamutur, was welcomed by the police, the local Bar, and justices of the peace, when he presided at the Te Awamutu Police Court on Saturday. Sir Hubert and Lady Carr, of Calcutta, India, who for the past few weeks have been touring New Zealand, have returned to Auckland and are staying at the Grand Hotel. They will leave for Vancouver, en route to England, by the Aorangi on Wednesday. Sir James Reid Roberts, formerly of ’he Indian Medical Service, who has seen fishing in \he Dominion, will be \ passenger for Vancouver by the Aorangi this week.
