The Australian Jockey Club’s autumn meeting opened at Randwick yesterday in ah,owery weather, but there was an attendance of 50,000. , Constant rain overnight made the going heavy, and this precluded any fast records. Limerick was unaffected by the sodden track, and the New Zealand champion comfortably defeated the opposition in the Autumn Stakes and received a flattering reception on returning to the enclosure. Mollison simply played with the opposition in the decision of the A.J.C. Sires’ Produce Stakes, and he retains an unbeaten certificate. The surprise of the day was the defeat of the dual Derby and Melbourne Cup winner, Trivalve, |n the St. Leger. Winalot performed brilliantly. and his victory in the St. Leger serves to enhance his prospects in the Sydney Cup. Just David was the early pacemaker from Suncoil and Really. Along the bqck Burraiorm took charge and led into the straight ahead of Just David and Gold Thread. Burraform maintained his advantage to the post and won by three lengths. Time, 3.585AUTUMNSTAKES Of £2,500; weight-for-age; 1 £ miles. LIMERICK, H. A. Knights, br g, 4yrs. by Limond—Medley, 8.11 1 PTASTOON. 6yrs, 9.3 .. 2; PILLIEWINKIE, aged, 9.0 .. ..... 3 Five started. Piastoon made the early running from Spearer and Pilliewinkie, with Limerick last. Approaching the straight Limerick ran to the front, and thereafter was untroubled, winning by three lengths. At three furlongs Coercion led by three lengths from Mollison and Ramulus. Mollison took charge on entering the straight and won comfortably by four lengths. Time, 1.32.
