BID AS FOR POULTRY
SALE OF “ALICE” MANUSCRIPT AMERICAN CRITICISMS By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright , Reed. 9.30 a.m. NEW YORK, Fri. Considerable comment has been aroused by objections raised in Britain against the sale of the manuscript of “Alice in Wonderland” to Dr. Rosenbach for £15,400. Some of the newspapers call the sale a tactless performance. The “New York World” says it wishes Americans had had the good taste to refrain from bidding at all. The “New York Sun” says no sympathy should be shown for British sentimentalists, who put too high a value on the manuscript; nor should they rejoice with Americans who could bid as though they were at a poultry show. —A. and N.Z.
