EASTER CAMPS

MEETINGS AT NGARUAWAHIA HUNDREDS UNDER CANVAS ! (From Our Own Coi'i'espondeiit) NGARUAWAHIA, To-day. The delta town of Ngaruawahia has quite an animated appearance this week-end. There are many new arrivals in the town, two Easter camps having commenced on Thursday. The point at the confluence of the tAo rivers is now a canvas town—large marquees for general meetings and dining purposes having been erected. The Ngaruawahia Christian Convention’s camp will continue till Monday. Much interest centres in this convention, as it is a gathering of Christians from several well-known evangelical Protestant churches, irrespective of denomination. Five hundred attended last year, and a similarly large attendance is expected this year. Delegates have come from Wellington, Palmerston North, Gisborne and nearer towns. The principal speakers this Easter are: Mr. J. D. Maitland-Kirwan. general secretary of the British Syrian Mission, London; Rev. L. Sale-Har-rison, who was for ten years pastor of the Ashfield Baptist Church, Sydney, and who is a delegate from New South ! Wales to the Baptist World Congress, j Canada; and Dr. W. H. Petitt. of Auckj land. I. The camp is under the management of Mr. Bruce Scott, chairman of the j executive, and Mr. Robert Dunsmuir, i secretary and treasurer. The ladies’ branch is in charge of Mrs. L. Graham, matron, and Miss Jean Dunsmuir, secretary. * * * At the pa across the rivers—the model Maori settlement of the Prinj cess Te Puea Herangi—there is a large ! gathering of Maoris totalling about ! 2.000. The camp is a model of cleanliness, j and the arrangements for housing and reeding this large assemblage are most complete. Steam cookers are installed in the large kitchens attached to the main hall, which is used on this occasion as a dining room. Mr. H. Marshall is the secretary and general manager. A. number of Mormon missionaries are present and the time will be largely devoted to religious teachings and lectures on sanitation and hygiene.
