CHARGES ON FROZEN MEAT
REDUCTION IN LONDON (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. Considerable reductions have been made on the cold storage rates for New Zealand frozen meat in London, according to a statement made by Mr. David ••ones, M.P., chairman of the Meat Board. The rates were reduced as from April 1, to a consolidated rate and rent for rhe first 28 days of £1 13s 3d a tonthe daily rent after the first 28 days would be Is Sd a ton. The rate and lent for the second period of 28 days would be £1 6s tfd a ton; for the third and fourth periods of 28 days £1 5s 6d: and for the fifth and subsequent periods of 28 days £1 4s 3d. Mr. Jones stated that previously the board and cold storage owners had had negotiations without satisfactory results and the board had decided to pur<i liase a site on the Thames, over which it held an option. Further negotiations, however, had since been entered into between the parties and they had finally resulted in a total reduction from the rate of 10 per cent, for the first month, and 20 per cent, for the second *," d subsequent months. It is estimated that these reductions from the 1925 rates will represent a saving to the Dominion of approximately £50,000 per annum. As part of the arrangement made be--1 ween the board and the London cold storage owners, the board has undertaken not to erect or operate, directly or indirectly, cold storage in Great Britain during the next three years.
