STAR OF EDEN LODGE

The Star of Eden Lodge (No. 54. 1.0.0. F.) had a record attendance of members at its installation of officers in the lodge hall, Ponsonby. After the ordinary business was finished, lodge representatives from Star of Auckland, Epsom, Araotea (Birkenhead) and Alberta (Mount Albert) were introduced by P.G. Bro. Guy. Bro. F. S. Newbold, D.D.G.M., entered the lodge room with his suite and the installation ceremony was begun. Officers for the ensuing term were elected as follow: —N.G., Bro. L. G Clarke; V.G., Bro. L. Smerdon; recording secretary, P.G. Bro. A. Parr; financial secretary, P.G. Bro. P. Evans; treasurer, P.G. Bro. W. D. Ross. P.G.M. Bro. J. Burchell, the founder of the Star of Eden Lodge in 1893, and now in his 80th year, said that it gave him great pleasure to be able to be with the lodge on this occasion He told some interesting anecdotes of the early days of the order, and then presented veterans’ jewels to P.G. Bro. H. A. Tattcrsall (34 years’ service), P.G.M. Bro. R. C. Guy (33 years’ service), P.G.C. Bro. P. Evans (31 years’ service). P.G. Bro. W. D. Ross (25 years’

service), P.G.M. Bro. M. J. Hooper (25 years’ service). Bro. Sec. Evans and P.G.M., Bro. Burchell presented the lodge with a framed programme of the opening ceremony of the Star of Eden, dated August 28, 1893. P.G. Bro. S. Takle, who is leaving ‘ on a tour of America and Great Britain, was given a lodge travelling cer- . tificate. ; In acknowledging the gift of a pipe [ and case for his long and valued serL vices, P.G.M. Bro. Burchell jocularly ■ remarked that this was the fourth pipe in the last four weeks he had received , from different lodges, each accompanied by the kindly wish that he might live long to enjoy his smoke. If he ’ could live up to their wishes he would have no difficulty in reaching 100 years of age.
