A CHERTSEY TROPHY
This is the “Cazna” Cup, perhaps the most treasured trophy of all on the side-board of the Chertsey Golf Club, England. Presented by Australian and New Zealand members of the club, it is to be competed for on the nearest Sunday to Anzac Day each year, the conditions being 36 holes of bogey play, ' and entry being limited to members of the club and all Australian and New Zealand golfers possessing a certified handicap who are in England at the time. The fact that they are competing, by the way, entitles these visitors to honorary membership of the club for two days. EASTER GAMES Akarana Club On Saturday afternoon an IS-hole stroke competition will be decided at Akarana, post entries closing- at 1 p.m. at the club-house. On Monday an all-day 36-hole stroke competition will be held, entries closing at the club-house at 11 a.m., and in conjunction therewith a bogey handicap in the afternoon. The official opening the club will be held on Saturday. April 14. when mixed foursomes will be played. Everslie Club During the Easter holidays the Everslie Golf Club proposes holding an open tournament, for which post entries will be received. On Saturday morning, starting at 9 o’clock, a medal round will be played, while a bogey match will be played in,the afternoon. On Monday a Canadian foursomes will be held, commencing at 1 p.m. Suitable trophies will be offered to the winners of the various events. Everslie Ladies’ Club Members of the Everslie Ladies’ Golf Club will hold a Canadian foursomes competition on the Everslie links on Monday afternoon next. Visitors will be cordially welcomed. Maungakiekie Club At One Tree Hill on Saturday, there will be a bogey handicap in the morning and a four-ball bogey in the afternoon for members of the Maungakiekie Golf Club. Post entries will be accepted, players to arrange their own partners and opponents. , Something like consternation lias been caused in the ranks of the British professionals by the cancellation of three of their big annual tournaments, the last to be declared oft' being the Northern Open Championship, for which the “Daily Despatch” usually found the £I,OOO for prizes. The “Daily Mail"’ and Gleneagles tournaments are the other two. Some of the clubs are hoping that the result i will be that their members will see a j little more of the professionals they employ. According to one correspondent. the P.G.A. looked the gift horses ! in the mouth, demanded this, that and j the other —and finished with nothing.
