INFECTIOUS DISEASE

INCREASE IN MARCH PREVALENCE OF FEVERS An increase of 52 cases over the February total is disclosed in the Health Department’s Auckland report for March. Substantial increases in scarlet fever, diphtheria and enteric fever are responsible. The aggregate of all types of diseases reported was 183 cases. There were 54 notifications of scarlet fever as against 12 in the previous month. The only big decrease was in tuberculosis, 32 cases being recorded as compared with 49 in February. The distribution according to districts was as follows, corresponding totals for February being given in parentheses: North Auckland, 14 (17); Central Auckland, 93 (63>: South Auckland. 45 (35); Coromandel-Opo-tiki, 31 (16). The total number of infectious diseases notified for the first quarter of the year is 440.
