WEMBLEY EXHIBITION DOWN BY £1,755,561
CALL ON GUARANTORS By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Tuesday. The Under-Secretary of the Board of Trade, Captain H. £>. Hacking, stated in the House of Commons that according to a final statement issued by the liquidators of the Empire Exhibition it had resulted in a deficiency of £1,755,561.
The guarantors were- thereforecalled upon to pay 176.5 din the pound. They had met large portion of this deficiency which could in no way be regarded as a nett loss to the country as the exhibition had brought a great deal of money into Britain. Commander J. M. Kenworthy, Labour member for Kingston-upon-Hull Central, said many members would support the Government if it did not make this call on the guarantors. Captain Hacking replied: “You overlook the fact that the Government was the principal guarantor.” A. and N.Z.-Sun.
