BOMBAY DEVIATION

MAY BE CLOSED SOON The closing of the seven-miles deviation on the Bombay Bills lias been ordered by the Public Works Department to protect the road from damage, and motorists from the discomfort of liold-ups in the event of rain, although the road will remain open while the present fine weather continues. When the road was made available several months ago, it was stated officially that summer traffic would assist materially in consolidating the formation. In view of the threatening weather, and the likelihood of conditions trapping motorists, it has been thought advisable to keep vehicles off the clay surfaces. Since the Franklin County Council and the Main Highways Board are still at variance cencerning responsibility for metalling the deviation, it is unlikely that it will be metalled much before next summer.
