SAMOAN POLICE JOBS ARE NOT BEING RUSHED
ALTHOUGH the usual job advertisexnent attracts a lone queue of applicants of different types, there appears to be no rush for the positions of recruits for th--Samoan Military Police. which were advertised this morning. Up to a late hour this morning there had been no appications for the jobs. On the surface the rate of pay. Ss t?d a day. does not appear appetising—particularly to those who have very strong views on the Government’s relief rate of 9s a day—but rations and accommodation are provided by the department for the Samoan Police, and this will be a consideration to those who are chosen to go to the Islands. The only catch that prospective applicants might suspect is that the term of engagement, in the official language, “will be for 12 months if services are required for that period.” No time is being wasted by the department, applicants having to be ready for an early departure, and to be prepared to report at Wellington on April 11.
