ALPINE CLUB FORMED AT MOUNT EGMONT

FIRST MEETING HELD 'Press Association. HAWERA, Monday. The Alpine Club recently formed at Hawera to promote climbing, skiing tramping in the Egmont National Park, has had remarkably good support’, nearly 200 members being enrolled* during the two weeks since the club was established. The inaugural outdoor meeting was held yesterday, when 100 members met on Fantham’s Peak, at an altiude of 500 ft, to consider the erection of a club hut, and the formation of skiing and tobogganing runs. Over 35 members, including 20 women, completed the ascent of Mount Egmont, and counting other parties, a total of 60 reached the top of the mountain yesterday.
