IN THE MARKET PLACE

CHEAPER POTATOES EGG PRICES STEADY Steady trading is reported in the City Marts. Most seasonal varieties of fruit and vegetables are well supplied. Tomatoes continue heavily supplied, with values even lower than last week’s low rates. The season for peaches is practically over, and only odd lots find their way into the marts. Values of bananas have improved over the past day or so. A fresh shipment comes to hand on the Waipahi this afternoon. Grapes are coming; to hand in large quantities, but the market is holding steady on late levels. A better demand is expected for this fruit toward the end of the week as a result of the holiday trade. In the field and garden produce section both onions and potatoes are easier, following the heavier arrivals of lowerpriced consignments from the South.
