COLLEGE ATHLETES
KING’S FIELD DAY SENIOR CUP TO MEIKLE Keen competition characterised the annual field sports meeting of King’s College, which were held in the college grounds at Mangere on Saturday. A LARGE numb&r of parents and friends assembled to watch the sports and were provided with some interesting races. Many very fine athletes have passed through the college and have set records which are not easily broken. Although no new records’ were established on Saturday the boys proved themselves to be athletes of no mean standard who would be worthy opponents in open company. The Senior Cup was won by Meikle with 24 points. Browne I. with 18 points was second, and Thomson I. and Caughey tied for third place with six points each. The steeplechase has yet to be run and although the first and second places in the Senior Cup cannot be changed, the third place tie will in all probability be decided. Hargrave 11., with 28 points, was an easy winner of the Junior Cup. Lewis I. was second with 12 points and Stenson third with six points. Hargraves annexed five of the cup events and ,was placed in all of the others. The crowd followed the events with the keenest interest, but undoubtedly the “old” Old Boys’ race created the most enthusiasm. The ever popular city missioner, the Rev. Jasper Calder, appeared on the track as one of the competitors and he kept the crowd amused before the race. He was attired in a pair of shorts, and a football jersey ahd ran in his bare feet. He showed the younger generation how it should be done by winning easily. The 100 yards old boys’ race for the Robertson Cup was won by Milliken, with Johnson second and Hain third. Milliken won the Junior Cup in 1925 and 1926, and the Senior Cup last year. Results were as follows: 100 Yards (under 14). —First heat: Moses, 1; Gunn, 2; Biddles, 3. Time, 12 4-ss.
