VARSITY SCORES THREEPOINTER OVER Y.M.C.A.
SCHNAUER’S CENTURY With the great interest taken in the championship final on No. 1 ground at Eden Park, followers of the other two games at the park on Saturday were few. The Varsity-Y.M.C.A. game, however, produced some of the most exhilarating batting club cricket has seen in Auckland this season. With a lead of 30 over Y.M.C.A.’s, first innings total of 97 for the loss of only four wickets, the Varsity batsmen set to work again and put on 120 runs in just under an hour. The Young Men’s bowlers were flogged in a most merciless manner, and it was thought that their attack had completely crumpled up before the bats of Gee and Schnauer. but when the Y.M.C.A. players went to the batting crease a second time they scored no less freely than the students had done. There was nothing at stake over the result of the game, and the batsmen of both sides were not afraid to step out and take risks. Scores of 14 and 16 off individual overs became frequent.
