ROYAL DAMON AGAIN TWO WINS FOR FEE SIMPLE FIVE FAVOURITES SUCCESSFUL (Special to THE SUN) MASTERTON, Saturday. Beautiful weather favoured the Master ton Racing Club for the conclusion of its autumn meeting to-day. The totalisator figures for the meeting were £22,906. Red Fuchsia, Bonhomme and Modern were best backed in the Iligh-weight Red Fuchsa and Modern led to the straight, from Royal Time and Strategy, but in the end Polyphemus came through and won easily by two lengths from Royal Time, who just scrambled in ahead of Lady Gay, with Calluna fourth. Red Fuchsia and Modern did not finish on at all well, and Bonhomme faded very badly, even allowing for the fact that he got into a certain amount of trouble. Royal Time ran on better than expected, but nothing had a chance with Polyphemus once it came to racing. Short-Priced Winner Fee Simple made a one-horse race of the Trial Handicap, for which he was a hot favourite. He led out from Sky Bird and Molong. and ran right away in the straight to win easily by three lengths from Tatrina, who beat Molong by a similar distance, while Sky Bird faded right out and Fairone came into fourth position. An Easy Win Another boil-over occurred in the Waipipi Handicap, for which Cosmetic was backed to a, short price. Lin Arlington made the early running from King Midas, who was just ahead of Cosmetic. King Midas hit the front in the straight and won very nicely from Lin Arlington by two lengths, while Cosmetic, who seemed sore, was nearly six lengths away third. The winner paid a good price, due to the big support for Cosmetic. Set-Back for Punters The Champagne Stakes candidate, Stagliunter, was a short price favourite in the Cave Handicap, and his defeat was a big blow for backers. Miss Gowrie and Millais led to the home turn, where Millais began to falter. Stagliunter challenged half-way down the straight, but could not overhaul Miss Gowrie, who won by a head. Millais was a fair third and First Ruler fourth. Joy Bird Atones The Opaki Handicap provided a- good contest and a close finish. Joy Bird
was favourite. Peneus led to the home turn, where Joy Bird took charge, only to be tackled by Rng Boy, who, under pressure, did well, and Joy Bird had to do her best to win by a neck. Two lengths back came Peneus, with Perle de Leon and Twink next. Run of Favourites Vigilance was backed as a good thing in the Mikimiki Hack. Exhibition and Tripaway led to the straight, then Vigilance took command and won with ridiculous ease by three lengths from Hymestrason, who beat Aurora Borealis by two lengths, with Tripaway fourth. Completed a Double Royal Damon was sent out one of the hottest favourites of the meeting for the Macara Handicap. Sarchee began fast from the rails and led Royal Damon to the straight, where the favourite ran past him and Royal Ceres moved into second place. Royal Damon won well by a couple of lengths, while Cosmetic finished fast and cut Royal Ceres out of second place in the last stride. Sarchee was fourth. An Easy Win Several horses w r ere fancied in the Farewell Handicap, with which the meeting concluded. Eka and Fee Simple were favourites and were in front all the way. Fee Simple winning; bv five lengths from Eka. who beat Imitation by half a length. Callanmore was fourth.
