RACING AT TE PUKE

MOSQUE TAKES THE CUP TE PUKE, Saturday. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Paengaroa-Te Puke Racing Club held its annual fixture at the club’s course at Maketu Junction to-day. The weather was fine. The meeting was a record in respect of attendance, number of horses and the class of racing. The Bay of Plenty Cup was won by R. Porter’s Mosque, after a good race, by a length. Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P., presented the cup, which is donated by Mr. Elliot Davis. He also presented a gold-mounted whip, donated by Messrs. Mahoney and Gillan, to J. Smith, rider of Mangaitu, the winner of the Ladies’ Bracelet. Results were as follow: Maiden Race, 6 furlongs.—Eastbourne, 1; Tarrapeen, 2; Kiwinui, 3. Nine started. Time, 1.21. Shorts Handicap, 5 furlongs.—Roman Abbey, 1; Cherry Girl, 2; Namutere, 3. Nine started. Time, 1.41. Bay of Plenty Cup, of £SO and trophy; 1.1 miles. —Mosque (Tuoliey), 1; The Author, 2; Rarangi, 3. Also started: Takutama and Waitekohe. Time, 2.11 3-5. Railway Handicap, 7 furlongs.—Roman Abbey, 1: Cherry Girl, 2; Division, 3. Skc started. Time, 1.33 2-5.
