CHURCHMEN CONFER COMMITTEE SET UP In accordance with the public relations scheme recently published by the Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand, Ltd., a conference of representatives of churches was held at 1Y A studio yesterday. There were present at the meeting: The Rev. H. M. Smyth, representing the Church of England; the Rev. W. D. Morrison-Sutherland (Presbyterian), the Rev. Edward Drake (Methodist), the Rev. J. M. Kemp (Baptist), the Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher (Congregational), Mr. D. Donaldson (Church of Christ), Mr. C. S. Booth (Broadcasting Company), Mr. S. J. Hayden (station director at IYA), Mr. Culford Bell (announcer at IYA). The Rev. Edward Drake was elected to the chair. The meeting (according to the report supplied by the authorities at IYA) decided ta set up a’ com-
1 mittee to be called “IYA Church Serf vice Committee,” to consider and make recommendations to the company with regard to the broadcasting of church services and such other religious subjects that are offered for broadcast. The constitution of the committee was fully discussed, and it was decided that each church represented at the conference should appoint one representative to the committee. _ A letter was read from Mr. A. R. 1 Harris, general manager of the Radio Broadcasting Company, who was unable to be present, expressing the appreciation of the directors for the interest shown by the churches and for their valued co-operation. It was hoped that the formation of this com- ’ mittee would result in still closer co- ’ operation and constitute a substantial • contribution to this branch of the com--5 pany’s service. 1 It was resolved that the committee k meet for business on Friday, April 13.
