“VOTES FOR FLAPPERS”
BILL READ SECOND TIME By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Thursday. AN overwhelming majority of 377 to 10 in the House of Commons carried the second read ing of the Bill giving women equal rights with men in the franchise. The result of the voting was loudly cheered from all quarters of the House. The Bill was then committed to the committee of the whole House. Those who voted against the second reading were all Conservatives, namely, Messrs. Charles C. Craig (Antrim), G. M. Kindersley (Hitchin), Sir W. Bull (Hammersmith), Mr. G. Balfour (Hampstead), Major A. B. Boyd-Carpen-tsr (Coventry), Mr. E. Harmsworth (Isle of Thanet), Mr. Frederick Hall (Normanton), Mr. S. Samuel (Putney), Sir J. Nall (Hulme), and Sir C. Oman (Oxford University). The tellers were Brigadier-Gen-eral Cockerill and Colonel R. U. K. Applin A. and N.Z.-Sun.
